Outsourced Product Management?
As I was reading through a recent press release from one of our partner’s, Orasi Software, in which they announce a new domestic sourcing facility, I started to wonder – is outsourced Product Management really that far away?
Seems not that long ago that it was 2001, and myself and a few other Product Managers at the time balked at the thought of storing our intellectual property on an on-demand CRM application. Seems the company was trying to help us by providing some tools to store requirements type information.
Fast-forward to 2005, and I’m suddenly working at Ryma telling the world all PM’s should be using on-demand tools to help organize their lives and gain productivity. Now, we’ve clearly surpassed the intellectual property issues, or I wouldn’t be here writing this blog working at a company that has attacked just that very same issue.
Seems the topic of outsourced product management is now what on-demand PM tools used to be back in 2001. We recently had a weekly webinar on just this topic, check out "Can You Outsource Product Management? with Alyssa Dver".
If I ask people today, you generally find opinions in one of two camps:
- Are you crazy? Product Management cannot be outsourced, you need subject
matter expertise!
- Great idea! I hate going through load of enhancement requests anyway.
Would love to hear thoughts from the community on this topic. I’ve also created a poll, to gage opinions – please vote below:
